Our mission is to develop highly qualified dentists for the international market, with the benefit of business entrepreneurial skills and understanding.
LDTA will provide an undergraduate course of study leading to a bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). On graduation, students would be able to register with the General Dental Council of UK. The LDTA will be the UK's first private dental school. Its students and graduates will mainly be from overseas and trained for practice worldwide. We will initially offer the 5-year BDS degree. In due course, the LDTA will expand to provide CPD (Continuing Professional Development) for its own Graduates and existing UK dental practitioners, and postgraduate education in specialist aspects of dentistry. The LDTA will set up an Alumni Programme for graduate support and development.
The BDS will be a UK degree awarded by our partner University. Graduates would complete the course to full GDC and European Standards. The LDTA and senior students, will also provide dental care services to the general public in and around Leicester.
The LDTA will also, in due course, endow a charitable trust and be a research resource and award scholarships to promising students with limited means of support.
LDTA has the opportunity with its partner University to design a course of study with “fresh eyes”; Using the experience of our Academic partner to create a course that is tailored to meet the needs of International Students; A programme that is forward-looking, and one that will produce qualified young people who are also fit for the world's future needs for dentistry.
However, the LDTA will not just be an education establishment. It will be a community resource for a wide range of stakeholders and the public, and meet their needs for dental services and provision. Thus there will be benefits to the general public, local dental practitioners, the National Health Service, Government and Leicester's economy.
The curriculum and teaching programme will be subject to rigorous quality control by the University and LDTA, using independent accreditation and examiners, with the necessary flexibility to ensure it remains practical and relevant. Feedback from students, partners and others, will also allow continuous improvement in teaching content and dental service provision in the Dental Clinical Centre.
The University will undertake quality assurance, working to the requirements of the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education. A joint structure for academic management consisting of a Board of Studies, Examinations Board and subject-based Management Boards will manage the operational aspects of the teaching. In addition, the LDTA has appointed its own Academic Advisory Board, some of whom will also be members of the University's equivalent board.
